Privacy Policy
Effective October 29, 2026 · Applies to the Peppo app for iPhone and Android
Peppo is a food and fitness app made by Abdullah Al Mamun (“we”). We built it so your information stays on your phone. This page explains exactly what the app stores, what it sends, and why.
The short version
- There are no accounts. You never give us your name, email, or password.
- Your profile, food log, workouts, and settings are stored only on your phone.
- We don’t show ads, we don’t use analytics or tracking tools, and we don’t sell or share your data.
- Two features use the internet: food search and photo calorie estimates. Details below.
What stays on your phone
The app saves the following on your device only:
- Your profile: age, sex, height, weight, goal weight, activity level, and goal.
- Your food log: what you ate, when, and its nutrition (calories, protein, carbs, fat, sodium, saturated fat, fiber, sugar).
- Your gym plan, workouts, sets, weights, and your workout buddy’s name and color.
- Your settings, such as units, custom meals, and exercise choices.
- If you connect Apple Health: your daily steps, walking and running distance, active calories, and workouts (such as walks and runs from an Apple Watch).
We cannot see this information. If you delete the app, it is deleted from your phone. Your phone’s own backup (for example iCloud or Google backup) may include it, according to your phone’s settings.
What leaves your phone
Food search
When you search for a food, the words you type are sent to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s FoodData Central service to look up nutrition information. Nothing else about you is sent with the search. See the USDA privacy policy.
Photo calorie estimates
When you choose to estimate calories from a photo, the app sends to our server:
- the photo (shrunk to a small size),
- any note you add, such as “large bowl”, and
- a random ID created by the app on your phone. It is not linked to your name, phone number, or any other account.
Our server passes the photo and note to Anthropic’s Claude AI service, which returns the estimate. We do not store your photos or notes. Anthropic processes them to provide the estimate under its commercial terms; see the Anthropic privacy policy.
To keep the service free and prevent abuse, our server keeps a count of how many photos each random ID sends per day. Those counts contain no photos or personal details. Our server runs on Supabase; see the Supabase privacy policy.
Using photo estimates is optional. Everything else in the app works without it.
Apple Health
If you choose to connect Apple Health, Peppo reads your steps, walking and running distance, active calories, and workouts. Peppo only reads this data; it never writes to Apple Health.
- We use it only to show your activity, count your walks and runs toward your streak, and give you tips in the app.
- It stays on your phone. It is never sent to our server, Anthropic, or anyone else.
- It is never used for advertising, never sold, and never stored in iCloud by us.
- You can stop at any time: in Peppo (tap your step goal, then “Stop using Apple Health”, which deletes Peppo’s copy), or in the Health app under Sharing → Apps → Peppo.
Camera and photos
The app asks for camera or photo-library access only when you choose to snap or pick a meal photo. You can turn this off at any time in your phone’s settings.
Health information
Peppo is a general wellness app. It does not ask about medical conditions, lab results, or medications, and it is not medical advice. Talk to a doctor before changing your diet or exercise, especially if you have a health condition.
Age
Peppo is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your choices
- You can edit or delete any food or workout entry in the app.
- You can delete all of your data by deleting the app.
- You can use the app without photo estimates, so nothing but food searches leaves your phone.
Changes to this policy
If we add features that change how information is handled (for example, weather-based suggestions that use your location), we will update this page and the date above before those features ship. Last change: added Apple Health.
